G&M - Connoisseurs Choice - Macduff 2009 Cask Strength - Whisky
Gordon & Macphail's Connoisseurs Choice Macduff whisky is produced at the Macduff distillery in Banffshire in Scotland. The distillery was established in 1960 and its whisky is known for its light and fruity characteristics.
The Connoisseurs Choice Macduff whisky is aged for 13 years in a combination of first-fill bourbon barrels and refill American hogsheads. The result is a light, golden whisky with a honeyed aroma and hints of vanilla and tropical fruits. The palate is silky smooth with flavours of sweet caramel, orchard fruits and a subtle spicyness that lingers on the finish.
What makes this whisky unique is that Macduff distillery is one of only a handful to use traditional worm tubs in their distillation process which helps them to achieve their distinctive fruity, light style. Worm tubs are large copper tubes filled with cold water that the spirit passes through causing it to condense and thus creating this distinct flavour profile.
Overall, I'd say this is my kind of dram. It's smooth and fruity and has a rich history and a unique production process.
