Bairrada
The local grape used most in this area is Baga - a grape high in acidity and tannin, with medium body and plucky red fruit flavours such as cherry, cranberry and plum. Due to it’s intense qualities, this wine is better after some aging, softening potentially astringent tannins and developing more complex flavours. The white wines from this area often reflect a certain mineral quality, influenced by the proximity to the sea, and some international grape varieties are grown here such as Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
