Godet Extra Cognac comes with a story - just like all great and inspirational drinks often do...
In 1945, 12th and 13th generation Godets Jacques and Jean were coming to terms with the end of World War II and the devastation it had caused to their cellars and vineyards, not only had they been looted but their vineyards were absolutely decimated. They made the decision to carry on and were determined to replenish their stocks and continue the family tradition, and in doing so leave behind a viable business and therefore a legacy for generations to come.
Godet Extra Cognac is an "Hors d'Age" blend using the very same eaux-de-vie harvested during this difficult post-war period. It has been aged for the intervening decades in their ancient damp and murky cellars (the perfect environment) in La Rochelle, a seaside town in southwestern France.
Now run by the 15th generation of a Cognac dynasty; Jean Edouard, Maxime, and Cyril Godet have taken the heritage and craftsmanship to create this magnificent bottle. The Extra Cognac is a fitting tribute to the family's post-war past, a true gem in their collection.
What makes Godet unique is the La Rochelle location, the particularly salty and humid environment works its magic on the eaux-de-vie during the ageing process.
This Extra aged Cognac is ideally drunk neat as it is "Hors d'Age", enjoy it in a traditional snifter or tulip glass. To enjoy the Cognac's aromas further, hand warm your glass before taking that very first sip.... Bliss!
