G. Miclo - Kirsch Grand Reserve
G. Miclo is a distillery based in Alsace in eastern France at the foot of the Vosges mountains. The founder was the son of a wine merchant who in the 1950's and 1960's used to deliver schnapps - from farmers to restaurants (as well as the wines) but it was the schnapps that he wasn't always happy with - because the quality was inconsistant. The region was and still is teaming with fruit trees - this gave Gilbert the idea to begin his own production and so G. Miclo was born.
The term Eau de Vie literally translates as "water of life". It is a fruit based drink that is fermented and then double distilled. Eau de Vie can be made of any fruit based drink other than grapes. If it were grapes, of course it would then be known as brandy.
