Benromach Peat Smoke
Benromach was founded in 1898 but it was a less than auspicious start; The two gentlemen who founded it, MacCallum and Brickmann ran out of money and so not a drop of whisky was distilled until over two years later in 1900 and then, sadly the distillery closed later the same year. However, it re-emerged in 1911 phoenix like after it was acquired by a London based firm, Harvey McNair & Co. Production has continued since then but with quite a bit of buggering around until Gordon McPhail took over the site in 1997. Since then, the distillery has flourished, winning multiple awards and plaudits including "best speyside single malt" for the Benromach 10 year Old at the World Whisky Awards in 2014.
Seriously smoky - but its not overpowering. Think bonfires and cured meats.
