Gordon & Macphail - Discovery Labels - Glentauchers 2008 - Whisky
This exceptional single malt whisky has been expertly crafted by one of the most respected names in the industry for Gordon & Macphail's famous discovery label range. This particular expression was distilled in 2008 and aged in a refill American hogshead before being bottled in 2021 at 46% Abv.
The Glentauchers distillery is located near Keith in the Speyside region of Scotland and was founded in 1897 by James Buchanan of Buchanan and Dewar fame. It was designed by Charles Doig, one of the most prolific distillery architects of his time.
Today, the Glentauchers distillery has a modern production faciltiy that combines traditonal methods with cutting-edge techniques and modern technology. The distillery sources its water from the River Isla and uses locally sourced malted barley, which is milled on site before being combined with the local water to create the mash. The mash is then fermented in washbacks for approximately two days before being distilled in the distillery's two copper pot stills. These stills are unusual in that they are both fitted with purifiers which helps to produce a refined, high-quality spirit.
The result is a single malt scotch that is a complex and elegant expression with notes of fresh apple, pear, honeycomb and vanilla. There is also a distinct citrus flavour and subtle oak and spice. It's well balanced and rounded. An excellent must-try for any whisky enthusiast.
