Pinot Noir
A close relative of Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir has small, black grapes that are tightly clustered in pine cone shapes. A very important grape variety in Burgundy with age-worthy wines which can command incredible prices. Pinot Noir is also widely planted in Champagne where it makes much of the Blanc de Noir as well as being an important part of many sparkling wine blends including English Sparkling wine. It does have a reputation for being a grape diva though – it’s difficult to grow, temperamental and finickerty. Mind you – it tastes incredible – and the fact that it is grown the world over is testament to that.
