Greywacke - Botrytis Pinot Gris 2018

Regular price £28.00

Unit price per

Greywacke is a Marlborough wine producer creating cult classic premium level wine in New Zealand.

Greywacke was created in 2009 by Kevin Judd, chief winemaker at Cloudy Bay from its very first vintage and he was instrumental in creating its deserved world class reputation and in fact for the incredible international recognition of the wines of New Zealand.

The name ‘Greywacke’ was chosen by Kevin for his first Marlborough vineyard because of the quantity of greywacke river stones in the soil; a sedimentary rock which is widely found in Marlborough.

Kevin Judd is also one of New Zealand’s finest wine photographers. He has published a book called ‘The Landscape of New Zealand Wine’. What a talented guy.

Fermentation for this wine took place in old oak barrels, 60% of which were allowed to spontaneously wild-ferment. This adds extra richness and depth to the shrivelled raisiny botrytis grapes. As if that wasn’t enough, it was then left to age on the lees for nine months, imparting a wonderful creaminess.

It's aromatic, pretty and elegant. Flavours of pear, honey, and blossom.
