Liatiko - Red PGI 'Queen' 2021
The Lyrarakis Winery in Crete, Southern Greece, produces a variety of wines made mostly from native grapes. Crete is one of Greece’s most important wine growing regions, producing wines emblematic of the country and providing a tourist destination that promotes these fantastic wines.
The Liatiko Red ‘Queen’ is made on the North side of the island of Crete, the grapes grown on vineyards found at 650m altitude in the beautiful medieval town of Rethymnon. It has a very mountainous terrain and is relatively new to the winemaking world.
This grape, Liatiko, a ‘queen’ of Cretan variety, has plenty of vibrant dark cherry and wild berry aromas, fine integrated tannins and an impressive, elegant finish. Aromas of dark cherry, soft spices and even leather are present – and given time these characteristics would develop even further and take on a new style of their own. Similar to most Greek red varieties, it is bold and full bodied, and would pair wonderfully with Italian dishes that compliment big flavours, such as rich tomato pasta dishes or even a meaty pizza.Size: 75cl Bottle
