South Africa
It's quite ridiculous to call South African wine - "new world wine" - vines have been grown in this beautiful country since 1659 - so there's not much that's new about that…
South Africa is of course found at the tip of the African continent - much of the vineyards are located close to the coast and benefit from a Mediterranean climate, those cooling sea breezes and dry, sunny days benefit the grapes enormously. The wine regions are also referred to as "winelands" and are utterly, breath-takingly beautiful; they encompass ruggedly handsome mountain ranges and gorgeous indigenous wild flora and fauna.
