Founded in Friuli in 1943 in north eastern Italy By Bepi Tosolini after he began to distil the drink grappa. Until then all grappa was made crudely by home distillers with the left overs from wine production. It had a terrible reputation for poor quality and was drunk by the extremely poor as an alternative to some of the more expensive ways of enjoying alcohol.
This brandy has been aged for 12 years in the underground cellars in Fruilli in North Eastern Italy in Slavonian oak barrels. The grapes used are Refosco ( a traditional Friulian red grape variety) plus Merlot and Cabernet and have been processed by distillation in a Chanterais pot still. Bags of powerful, concentrated flavour. The wood predominates from the slavonian oak and compliments the buttery, vanilla flavours beautifully. Well balanced and with a peppery finish, this a perfect present for a brandy lover looking for something a bit different.
