Metras is considered to be the fifth member of the Gang of Four; a collection of ‘rebel’ wine-makers from Beaujolais who in the 1980’s pioneered the resurgence of natural processes against the mass production of wine in the area. The actual foursome consisted of Marcel Lapierre, Jean Paul Thevenet, Jean Foillard & Guy Breton.
Rigourously choosing only the healthiest grapes from old vines, harvesting late while avoiding filtration and chaptalization, they captured the true essence of the land. Metras wines in particular can hold their own against top Burgundian Pinot Noir.
The Moulin A Vent is 100% gamay and is the Beaujolais with the fullest body and most well-established tannins making it ideal for ageing. In its youth the wine is juicy and fruity with lively red fruit flavours which develops into more earthy flavours with age - lots of forest floor and mushroom with some white pepper heat.
