The Macallan distillery deserves its highly regarded reputation. In 2018 a 60 year old Macallan whisky sold at auction for £848,000 making it the worlds most expensive bottle of whisky - perhaps you should get checking in the cupboards for your nan and grandads long forgotten whisky collection...
Originally Macallan whiskies were aged solely in Sherry casks imported from Jerez in southern Spain, now they also use Bourbon seasoned casks.
The 12 year old Sherry Oak Cask Macallan is aged in specially selected Jerez sherry casks which impart rich, luxurious flavour, colour and texture. The hue of this whiskey is a deep, pleasant burnt amber, it really reflects the effect that the sherry casks have had on the whiskey.
