The Castello di Fonterutoli estate has long been in the hands of the Marchesi Mazzei family (1435 to be precise). The family is therefore intrinsically linked to the history of Tuscan winemaking.
Fonterutoli is a sleepy and peaceful village in the heart of the Chianti Classico region in Tuscany. It is surrounded by hundreds of stunning vineyards some of which rise to just over 500m - those famous Tuscan hills!
The label on this wine has been inspired by the roman abbey La Baddiola, which overlooks the fabulous hills of Chianti Classico. The wine itself is made using Sangiovese as the main component but with the addition of merlot and petit verdot. The Petit Verdot adds a delicious spicy character and will assist the ageing potential. Supple red berry flavours alongside a spicy kick - this wine is perfect for an informal supper, it will work brilliantly with tomato based pasta, lasagne or pizza.
