Fonterutoli - Philip 2016

The Castello di Fonterutoli estate has long been in the hands of the Marchesi Mazzei family (1435 to be precise). The family is therefore intrinsically linked to the history of Tuscan winemaking.
Fonterutoli is a sleepy and peaceful village in the heart of the Chianti Classico region in Tuscany. It is surrounded by hundreds of stunning vineyards some of which rise to just over 500m - those famous Tuscan hills!
This wine is a special release and dedicated to Philip Mazzei who was born in 1730. He was into his wine (of course!) but more importantly he was a political thinker extraordinaire.
The wine itself is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon from each of the Mazzei estates - it is rich and full-bodied and said to embody Tuscan winemaking, the pursuit of happiness and the revolutionary nature of Philip himself. Sounds good to me. Lots of black fruits, spice, tobacco and leather notes, bold and with a touch of cedar.
