Contratto - Vermouth Rosso
As with most classic Italian drinks - this vermouth was created well over 100 years ago. The first known recipe for Contratto Vermouth dates back to the 1890’s. Pungent herbs and rare spices were added to oxidized wine to mask the ‘off’ flavours. Production ceased in the 1960’s. Thankfully, the cocktail craze of modern times has made vermouth fashionable again and Contratto has returned to the world.
This is a classic Rosso, acclaimed for having a closely guarded secret recipe that requires over 30 botanicals.
