Chateau de Pez is situated in St Estephe on the left bank of the Gironde. The Pontac family (who incidentally also created Haut-Brion) recognised the potential of the site in 1585 turning it from farm land to vineyards. The land remained in the hands of the family until the French Revolution whereby it was sold as a property of France.
The extraordinary quality of the vineyard has been steadily improving under the ownership of Champagne Louis Roederer since 1995. They have extensively improved the cellaring, increased the plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon and devoted several hectares to the cultivation of experimental biodynamic vines.
Chateau de Pez 2015 is as rich and complex as you would expect. Blackcurrants, cherry and liquorice on the palate. Beautifully balanced and extraordinarily refined.
