Anselmo Mendes - Vinhão - Vinho Verde Tinto
Anselmo Mendes is a Portuguese winemaker with a fantastic reputation. He creates small amounts of carefully curated wine using mainly local grapes - Alvarinho, Loureiro, Vinhao and Avesso and experiments with unusual wine-making techniques in the Vinho Verde region. The sea influence of the area always lends a celebrated minerality and fresh, zesty quality to the wines produced.
The Vinhao wine has the complex flavours of ripe, red fruits and is intensely aromatic and lively, with dark black and red cherries and plums being the main aromas and flavours. It has surprisingly soft tannins for the variety, and a bracing acidity.
