The name Akvavit comes from the Latin "Aqua Vitae" which means water of life, and it is thought it was first developed as a remedy to ward off the black death in the 1300's. Clearly the Scandinavians developed a taste for it because it has become the national spirit and is drunk throughout the year but especially on special occasions and celebrations. It bursts with delicious botanicals unique to this spirit style.
Aalborg Taffel Akvavit is from the Danish town of Aalborg with the recipe unchanged since 1846.
Crystal clear and bursting with character, a pure caraway bouquet, and with a slight hint of orange and lemon.
Aalborg Taffel Aquavit was voted the best aquavit in the world at the IWSC. Best served chilled alongside salty foods such as herring or gorgonzola. We like to drink it in small glasses and straight from the freezer. "Skol" to one and all!!
