Made with spontaneous fermentation, no additives other than sugar beet are added (for the second ferment in the bottle)
1701 Franciacorta is a 10 hectare biodynamic winery in the stunning hills of Lombardy in Italy. Franciacorta was the first wine in Italy to be made using the "champagne method" of fermenting for a second time within the bottle. Long aging in the bottle on the lees (the yeast sediment) gives franciacorta wines a complexity of flavour not present in the simpler style of sparkling wines such as prosecco. The grapes in franciacorta are a variety of champagne grapes, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The wine is lovely;well balanced acidity but also creamy and bready. A delicious special occasion wine.
