Rocamadre is winemaker Juanfa Suaréz’ pet project exploring the unique character of Paraje Altamira within the Uco Valley. This prestigous area is noted for its unique and varied terroir as well as its collection of small estates in the hands of families who have been farming here for generations, such as Finca Suaréz itself, which Juanfa’s grandfather founded in the 1920s.
This is a light red wine with exuburant red cherry fruit, spice and bags of style, made partly from a native Argentinian grape called Criolla Grande, from vines 80 years old.
The other grape is called Criolla Chica, which is a dark-skinned Spanish variety. Both are generally used to make inexpensive wines, particularly rose. So to produce a wine of this quality is real head turner.
