Akashi White Oak is a blended whisky made at the White Oak (aka Eigashima) distillery in Japan. A light and fruity spirit that makes a great introduction to Japanese whisky.
It has attracted some controversy due to the fact that in Japan it is made using malt whisky and molasses spirit. This would exclude it from being classified as a whisky. However, in the UK it has been exported to contain a blend of malt and grain whiskies - therefore it is a perfectly legit whisky so nothing to see here....
It is, as far as we know the only whisky in the world to be made by a Sake Grand Master - a Toji. The still used in the making of this whisky is far smaller than that of other whiskies, this means it doesn't require a lengthy ageing process and the result is light and delicate with a pine, nut and vanilla flavour profile.
